No Safe Place

“You’ve got this,” he said.

 

She is unsure.

Letting go of something holding her back, holding her down.

Releasing all that she has ever known.

 

She is naked.

Feeling new and unknown emotions, the dam broken.

Balancing on the narrowest of ledges.

 

“Just let go,” he says.  “This is a safe place.”

 

She is doubtful.

 

She’s heard the words before, the promises.

 

Only to find,

there are no safe places.
